Corporate Membership

The vision of the Society for Technology in Anesthesia (STA) is to bring together clinicians, researchers, developers, inventors, engineers, marketers and industry to inform each other about current and proposed developments in anesthesia equipment, monitors, patient safety, and more. The STA Annual Meeting is the most important event sponsored by the society, providing open dialog of trends, active research, and patient safety issues. Developers and manufacturers looking for a forum to publicize a new technology or development are better received at STA than at other medical conferences, and they receive more critical and effective feedback than is available at the purely “technological” conferences. The Annual Meeting provides a unique opportunity for individual conversations to help direct product development broadly, or provide feedback on specific aspects of product design and marketing. STA membership is a catalyst for success in the anesthesia technology market.

Benefits of corporate membership include:
· Opportunities to interact personally with clinical anesthesiologists interested in the design of contemporary anesthetic equipment and monitoring systems
· Opportunities to participate in open forums with users and purchasers of anesthetic equipment and monitors
· Opportunities to form relationships with inventors, engineers and researchers of anesthetic equipment and monitors
· Opportunities to support new educational tools related to patient safety

* Introduction to Anesthesia Course: This is a satellite session to be held on Wednesday, January 17, just before the start of the annual meeting. The course will be taught by experienced anesthesiologists and is targeted towards corporate members who may be new to anesthesia and would just like a concise overview of the specialty and an opportunity to ask questions in a non-threatening (non-sales) environment. One of the great benefits of STA is the opportunity to establish relationships between users and developers of technology. STA members look forward to the annual meeting and the opportunity to greet old friends and make new ones. The introductory course is as much about education as it is about fostering collegial relationships.

Title: Anesthesia 101: An introduction to a complex microenvironment

Course Objective: Become an anesthesiologist for the day! This day is designed to give insight into the anesthesia environment to close the gap between end users (clinicians) and research and design teams (industry) in an effort to develop new products with combined vision and creativity.

Course Description: This course will demonstrate the anesthesiologist’s interaction with patients and tools through a dynamic, interactive, hands-on agenda. The day will include expert mini-lectures and group discussions on key aspects of the clinical specialty including anesthesia ‘work’, behaviors driving equipment usage, the state of anesthesia-induced unconsciousness, and machine function. Simulator sessions using patient mannequins will allow course participants to actually become ‘anesthesiologists’ for routine and emergent cases presenting common clinical conundrums, demonstrating interactivity with operating room teams, and complications of record keeping. At the end of the day, debriefing sessions with anesthesiologist-educators will help to summarize activities and apply lessons learned. Click to print course agenda.

** Focus Groups: The STA annual meeting offers a unique opportunity for our corporate members to hold a focus session with STA members. Many of these sessions have been held over the years and have always been well attended. Between 30 and 50 STA members typically attend these sessions and the discussions are always lively. The society provides a meeting space and refreshments, you provide the content. Just think of the cost of bringing this many expert users together for a focus session. This has to be one of the best deals around!
